International Women’s Day (IWD) is just around the corner. IWD is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women. The initiative has occurred for well over a century, with the first IWD gathering in 1911 supported by over a million people. Today, IWD belongs to all groups collectively everywhere.
During the month of March, we’ll be celebrating the incredible women of Epsom; be it loved ones, local residents, members of the community, or employees at The Ashley Centre.
Our first profile is Hatty, founder of Hatty’s Sweet Shop in The Ashley Centre. As a young girl, Hatty was obsessed with sweets and dreamed of having a sweet shop of her own, a playground of all things sugary and fun. When Hatty turned 18, Hatty’s Sweet Shop opened its doors for the first time. The shop was everything little Hatty had dreamed of – bright, colourful and vibrant.
Nine years on and the shop has grown in leaps and bounds. Behind every sweet served is a story of support and dreams. That is what makes Hatty passionate about sweets, as she knows there will be another little Hatty looking through the shop window saying “I want to own a sweet shop one day”.
